The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie 215 pages

The indelible Hercule Poirot works his first case with Hastings in this tricky mystery.  There's a war on and Poirot has been granted amnesty, along with his Belgian compatriots, in Britain.  Mrs. Inglethorpe has provided lodging, as she is very generous with her wealth and supports many causes.  Captain Hastings is recovering from service and runs into John Cavendish, Mrs. Inglethorpe's stepson, and is invited to stay at Styles with them for the duration.  Imagine Hastings' surprise when only a day after mentioning the odd little Belgian detective, he runs into him in the village!  Soon after, Mrs. Inglethorpe dies from poisoning.  Since everyone already detested her younger husband, suspecting him of gold digging, he jumps to the hot seat of suspicion.  Can Poirot live up to Hastings' glowing description and use his little grey cells to sort this one out? I guess you should read (or listen to it, as I did) to find out.  David Suchet read this title on audiobook.
