Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford 319 pages

"Songs of Willow Frost" is the much anticipated 2nd novel of Jamie Ford.  "Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" was a fabulous debut novel and Jamie has managed to follow it up with the beautiful but sad story of a young orphan.  William was 5 when he was taken to the Sacred Heart Orphanage in Seattle.  He remembers his mother unconscious in the bathtub then being taken from  their humble apartment.  Like most of the orphans, he longs for the day, not when he will be adopted, but when his mother will come back into his life and they will live happily ever after.  Then, on the day designated as the collective birthday of the boys in the orphange, he sees a movie and there is his mother!  He is sure the woman on the screen is her!  She looks like his mother and sounds like his mother and her name, Willow, is even the English translation of his mother's Chinese name, Liu Song.  William runs away from the orphange and finds his mother.  The  book takes you through the horrendous life of young Liu Song and why she had to give up her young son, William, who she adored more than life itself.  Does this book have a "happily ever after" ending?  You will have to read it yourself to find out. Another great book club read complete with a reader's guide at the end.
