The Supreme Macaroni Company by Adriana Trigiani 419 pages

I have to agree with Mary Beth that I was very disappointed in this novel.  I usually look forward to reading Trigiani's stories, but this one was very depressing.  The whole book seemed to be about what Italian Americans eat.  Really, how they over eat on holidays!  Eat, eat, eat until they are stuffed!  And then eat some cannoli!  Valentine becomes engaged on Christmas Eve and is married on Valentine's Day. How appropriate.  But between planning her wedding, designing and making her own wedding shoes,  and trying to keep her business running, there does not seem to be time for her and her fiance, Gianluca, to discuss the important issues facing any newly engaged couple...where do we live, New York or Italy? Will the bride keep her name or take his?  Does the older husband with a grown daughter want to start another family?  You get the feeling throughout the book that the relationship is doomed from the start. While I usually enjoy reading about the strong, passionate and talented Valentine, this book almost seems to say a woman cannot have it all.  Boo Hiss!
