The Cat by Edeet Ravel 240 pages
The Cat by Edeet Ravel In the beginning of this short and intense novel a woman’s eleven year old son is killed and she sinks to the level of despair and depression where she wants to end her own life. From there she takes tiny steps in a recovery process that is fascinating to read about. Initially, her reason for not taking her life is the responsibility she feels to care for a cat that she and her son adopted just before he is killed. Through her memories and discussions in the book we get to know her son and learn about her marriage and what followed that brought her to the point where her whole life is her devotion to her son. Reading about the death of a child and the grief process that follows is never easy, but I highly recommend this book.
