The Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline 304 pages

This is a really good book I would never have read except for the urging of a patron, whose opinion I respect. The subject matter is a tough one, orphans rounded up in big cities on the east coast are shipped to the midwest and "given" to families. Sometimes the outcome is bright, but as one can imagine, cases of verbal, physical and sexual abuse can also result. The author does a really good job of touching on the good and bad outcomes. The story goes back and forth between two stories, of two different orphans, who are connected in an intersting way. There are photographs in the back of the book which are touching. A good book club book.
